D.J. Protheroe & Sons is an Independent family run funeral service established in 1987 by the late Reverend David Jones Protheroe, with his wife Anne and youngest son Robert. Still family owned, Robert, supported by a small team of dedicated staff who provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year service, manages Riverside Funeral Home.
Our friendly and professional service was originally run from premises in the family home and the Tabernacle Church. The success of the personal service we offer has led to us moving to our recently renovated premises close to Merthyr town centre in 2012.
At Riverside we have all the facilities to care for you and your loved one. We have areas where we can welcome you, support you to make arrangements, and give you private time with your loved one. Riverside has a Chapel of Rest and can accommodate funerals for up to 50 people. We can of course arrange funerals in a variety of places depending on your wishes.
The Riverside site has off road private parking and is fully accessible for visitors with mobility problems. Our facilities provide an informal environment in which to discuss and finalise your arrangements. We are only too pleased to hold these discussions in the privacy of your own home should you wish to do so.
Our approach is friendly, courteous and professional, with the aim of providing a caring service. There are many forms a funeral service can take, we will guide, advise and assist you throughout and make all necessary arrangements on your behalf.
